Hello.
Along with some friends, I'm planning a trip to Norway for next June. We tentatively have selected June 2-17 for our time in Norway to avoid crowds later in the summer. We anticipate visiting the Lofoten Islands for about 6 days -- tentatively June 11-16.
We plan to do a lot of hiking during our time in the Lofoten Islands - mostly on trails rated "medium" to "medium-hard". However, never having been there before, we are not sure about the hiking conditions we will encounter during early summer.
Are the trails generally free of heavy mud and snow during early-to-mid June?

Hei Robert,
Yes, at this time of the year (second week of June) most of the trails are free of snow and heavy mud. You will certainly have to cross some snow parts above 500m of altitude (summits and pass)
June is actually a very nice month to trek

Thanks David, that's useful information.
One additional question. Given the difficulty of packing them for long distance flights, I'd just as soon leave my trekking poles at home. On the Lofoten Islands are trekking poles necessary / desirable?
If they are desirable, are there places on the Lofoten Islands where one might rent trekking poles for a few days at reasonable prices ?

Yes poles are particularly useful in the Lofoten du to the rough terrain. I don’t know any place were you could rent them, but you can buy them in sport shops in Leknes or in Svolvaer. Although they will cost you much more here then in any other place in Europe.
