Hi All,

I will be in Lofoten one week at the end of March and would like to do some short hiking. I have seen photos of Kvalvika Beach, which seems to be 1 hour to arrive approx. Is it ok to do this hike at the end of March? Need snowshoe or anything more than simple hiking shoe? And more important what about the risk of avalanche?

Any other hiking suggestion? :)

Thank you!!! :) :)

Can't wait to be in Norway!

Hei,

Normally in March we have snow and ice here in the Lofoten, so it makes every move a bit more difficult and sometime more risky. But this is normally, since the two last years we have had little snow and very mild temperatures at that time of the year. Now it is cold and we have snow. So you can say that there is an high chance/risk that the path will be cover of snow and ice when you come in March, in this case you will need at least a pair of snow shoes and maybe some ice crampon to reach Kvalvika safely.

There are to ways to reach Kvalvika beach and I will advise you the longest (from the north-east though the lack of Forsvatnet) which is also the safest. The other one from the south-east (though the pass of Skoren) is very rocky on the way down to the beach and more exposed to avalanches. Some walks are easier then Kvalvika in winter, you should look for the one with the snowshoes sign on the site. For example in the same area you could climb on Ryten or go to Stokkvika beach (first part of Fuglhuken hike - http://www.rando-lofoten.net/index.php/en/fuglhuken-en)

Have a safe trip in the Lofoten

Hello,

M
